From the heart of an artist: Lloyd Bustard reminds us that love is spelled...

Welcome to the Heart of An Artist.  Each day this week we are featuring a new devotion from singer, songwriter, worship leader and pastor Lloyd Bustard.

Love in the Bible has an interesting contextual bedfellow.  It’s spelled n-e-i-g-h-b-o-r.  Loving your neighbor is part of the greatest commandment.

But, we all ask, ‘who is my neighbor?’

Our Lord’s answer to this all important ancient question makes it clear that, we cannot determine ahead of time who our neighbor may turn out to be. ‘Luke 10:25-29’ Neighbors are to be loved.  The great commission hasn’t been, nor will it ever be, replaced by the great commandment.

A neighbor is someone in need who we can help. He may be beaten up and laying beside the road, but it may be more likely that his wounds are more carefully hidden behind a mask of adequacy.  The richest, most successful person (in the eyes of the world) may be the most crippled, lonely, and broken man in your city. He is your neighbor.

So, my goal is not necessarily to determine who my neighbor is, but rather to be one. Most of us are neighbors to someone geographically, but few are neighbors to someone spiritually.

Everybody needs grace.
